VSO Image Resizer

May 7, 2009 |  by Nick  |  No Comments  |

A while ago you may saw my older post about a Microsoft Powertoy-Image Resize clone.  Of course this was just a clone of the program to be use with Windows Vista.  I have used it many times and it works well but the quality of the photos really degrade and it bothers the heck out of me.

I recently came across a new program for Windows XP or Vista called VSO Image Resizer – this is one great handy program.   VSO Image Resizer is a free program, but they do have a paid version.

With this free resize image software, you can create e-mail friendly versions of your images, load them faster, move them easily from folder to folder, change their format, edit large numbers of image files/batch image resize and thus save space on your hard drive. Using high resolution 1600×1200 for creating wallpaper or file-sharing you can save your memory. VSO Image Resizer can also change file names using a template and you can add your own watermark with transparency support.
VSO Image resizer is integrated into the Windows explorer shell, right click on your pictures and start working on your pictures !

I have not noticed any degrade of image quality and it works very well when you are doing batch jobs.  How ever if you do a ton of photography like I do, then this isn’t a very great way of resizing photos because though it might look alright, but there could be lost of data.  So use Photoshop or something similar!

This is the interface, as you can tell it is very clean and easy to use.  Also you can see all the neat features it offers!

And this is the processing box.

So if you have a ton of photos to resize for facebook to increase upload time, this is the program to use!  I know you will like it and it is a better tool than the powertoy one. So download it now!

Image Resizer Powertoy for Vista!

April 12, 2009 |  by Nick  |  10 Comments  |

You remember the Powertoy “Image Resizer?” Well it was a very handy tool to have because it could resize a large batch of images.  I used it so much when I had Windows XP and that Powertoy was only for Windows XP and when Vista rolled out, Microsoft didn’t update the code on that application so it wouldn’t run on Vista.  I thought that was just awful and I couldn’t find a decent Powertoy like that at the time Vista came out.  There were other tools sort of like that but you had to buy them and they had ton of ads on them.  A few weeks ago I came across the Image Resizer Powertoy Clone for Windows Vista. It’s a life saver!

You can grab the Powertoy here

To use it, all you have to do is highlight the images you want to resize, right-click, and select Resize Pictures.  You will then receive a dialogue window prompting you to choose a size from the most common, or you can click Advanced for more control.

It will not overwrite the images. Instead, it will rename the copy to have the image size after the original file name, how ever you can overwrite the file you want to do.  If you do something wrong there is no way in recovering the image.  So make sure you backed it up and or know what you are doing first.

Top Ten Netbooks

April 11, 2009 |  by Nick  |  1 Comment  |

A netbook is a class of laptop computer designed for wireless communication and access to the Internet. Netbooks typically run Windows XP or Linux operating systems rather than more resource-intensive operating systems like Windows Vista. According to Deloitte, as of the start of 2009, the established definition of a netbook was a notebook computer with a low-powered x86-compatible processor (compatible with PC standard software), small screen (no larger than 10 inches), small keyboard, equipped with wireless connectivity, lightweight (under three pounds) and no optical disk drive. Netbooks are typically low cost, relative to other notebooks.

PC Makers find ways to extend XP’s Life

May 1, 2008 |  by Nick  |  2 Comments  |

The end of XP is just right around the corner. As of June 30th Microsoft’s most successful operating system, Windows XP will be discontinued. Both Hewlett-Packard and Dell will be selling windows XP as a downgrade option. The computers will be Vista Business and Vista Ultimate that have been factory downgraded to Windows XP at the customer’s request. When the customer buys a PC from Dell or HP it will have Windows XP but already has a Paid-For upgrade to Vista when the customer chooses to do so.

HP said that they will be doing this beyond XP’s deadline until July 30th, 2009. Dell also said that they are planning to do the same idea as HP but are unsure of the time. Other PC manufactures are exploring other options to sell Windows XP beyond the deadline according the CNET News.com

There are limits for the PC manufacturers to have a Windows XP option, Only Windows Vista Business and Vista Ultimate will have downgrade rights. Retail stores are finding it difficult to sell windows XP as a downgrade option, because they can’t show Windows XP being installed on one of the display computers. But they can offer windows XP as a downgrade option if the customer’s requested to do so.

Lenovo and other PC manufacturers are selling Windows Vista with a Windows XP recovery disk so if the customer wants to have Windows XP installed they just have to pop in the XP Recovery disk and reboot the system and install Windows XP. Lenovo said they will be selling XP beyond 2009, more than likely up till 2014 when Microsoft stops supporting XP. These are just latest ways of getting XP on retail machines.

Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer has left the door open a crack for windows XP, But Steve Ballmer said “XP will hit an end-of-life” “we have announced one. If customer feedback varies, we can always wake up smarter, but right now, we have a plan for end-of-life for new XP shipments”

But users still want to keep Windows XP on the market and InfoWorld is starting a petition to save Windows XP. You can visit this Partition and sign it: D Below

I should get shirts made that say “Save Windows XP, Sign the petition at InfoWorld!” And give the URL.

So spread the word and maybe we could save XP for a little longer!

Windows 7 in 2009?

April 11, 2008 |  by Nick  |  2 Comments  |

Well we have all been waiting for Windows 7 and you may have heard that it was going to be released in 2010 or 2011, but it’s possible Microsoft will be releasing it in 2009. Why so early? Microsoft was saying the Windows XP support timetable suggest that 2010 might coincide with the one-year anniversary of Windows 7.

But Microsoft said the truth is that it’s more than likely to be released in 2009. This is very strange because no one has a clue of what it will look like. Will it look like Vista? Or not? Microsoft and a few rumors said that Windows 7 will ship with a leaner, more efficient kernel, but a more efficient Microsoft will benefit customers even more.
