MusicTracker Pidgin Plugin &iTunes

April 8, 2010 |  by Nick  |  No Comments  |

If you have Pidgin IM installed which is a very popular open source all in one chat client and works very well.  If you also happen to use iTunes as your main music player and wanted Pidgin to display what you are listening to in the status of IM client, then you would use a plugin they offer called Music Tracker, which does work well, but not with iTunes.

I’ve noticed when I had Music Tracker and iTunes installed, iTunes would bog down a lot and become very unresponsive.  So I don’t recommend using Music Tracker with iTunes, unless you want a slow iTunes.  Now I haven’t tested this on a much faster machine, but I think it would do the same thing, but I am unsure at the moment.

If you have Music Tracker installed in Pidgin IM and also have the latest version of iTunes installed, Do you noticed any iTunes slow down at all?

Customize Your Pidgin Interface

November 12, 2009 |  by Nick  |  No Comments  |

I’m a really big fan of Pidgin IM client because for me it’s open source and it works really well.  But the downfall of this is that the interface isn’t that great in my opinion but I have found a way to give it a much better look and I will show you how to do this.

Before we begin, make sure you have Pidgin installed and other plugins, I recommend Facebook and Musictracker plugins.

Also one more thing before we start customizing is to make sure you back up this folder “C:\Program Files\Pidgin\pixmaps\pidgin

After you have done that, exit out of pidgin and lets get to customizing!

pidgin1

Browse to this location C:\Program Files\Pidgin\pixmaps\pidgin and the contents should be like the one in the screenshot (left).

Now download these files, I edited them my self so what you will have to do is just drag and drop and replace all the files.  Download

You can either extract it to: C:\Program Files\Pidgin\pixmaps\pidgin or just extract the compressed file and drag and drop, either way will work.

After that is complete, just run pidgin and everything should work just fine, you should have new icons and such.

If all done correctly, it should look something like this, depending on your configuration

If you have any problems implementing this new theme into pidgin, feel welcome to comment below and I will try to help you the best that I can.
