Flickr Gets a Face Lift

August 4, 2010 |  by Nick  |  No Comments  |

Flickr had been working on creating a new design photo page and after a few weeks of public review, Flickr has rolled out the newly designed photo page to the rest of the world.

One of the things Flickr did was increased the default view size by 28% So you get to show of your photo even more.  Remember when you wanted to view the photo bigger, you had go to the page that had the bigger sizes?  Well now you don’t have to, you can just click on the photo and it zooms out bigger using the lightbox feature and you get to see the photo on black which really makes your photos stand out.

The Next thing Flickr did was improve their navigation, you can finally move forward or back with the new newer and older buttons above each photo.  You can now click the drop down menu on the groups the photo belongs to and you can also check out the latest photos from there too.  Another thing is when you check out the latest photos from your contacts you don’t have to go back to the home page, you can just click next.  This makes it much more easier. Microsoft Banning Modded Xbox 360’s?

March 11, 2010 |  by Nick  |  No Comments  |

Have you modded your Xbox 360 and now afraid that you will get banned from Xbox Live? Maybe so, Maybe not.  Microsoft has built in guards that will prevent the Xbox from playing bootleg copies of games.  Yes, Microsoft does want to block pirating, but should they block people that mod their Xbox from Xbox Live that are using legal copies of games?  No, I don’t think they should.

Many users have been modding their Xbox 360’s that can play bootleg games by soldering a chip or installing unauthorized firmware, which does avoid the warranty and may even be illegal under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

New iPod Touch with Camera and Microphone?

August 29, 2009 |  by Nick  |  1 Comment  |

Maybe!picture-183-240x300

There have been rumors that Apple is making a new version of the iPod Touch with a camera and microphone, which, combined with a Skype account, would pretty much obviate for a home phone line once and for all.

Some sources say that China is already manufacturing iPod Touch models with integrated camera and microphones.

if iPod Touches with camera and microphones go on sale in two to three months, they will transform the entertainment-oriented iPod Touch line into a voice communications tool wherever Wi-Fi is available.

In addition to these voice-over-IP capabilities, which should have telephone providers quaking in their boots, the microphone (and camera) would enable the iPod Touch to understand voice commands, capture video and images, and work with a wider variety of programs in the App Store.

With that said, there have been some people that said with a iPod Touch with a microphone could use the Verizon MiFi personal hotspot creator to enable the iPhone experience on Verizon’s Network.

The Sony Daily Edition

Sony is calling their new eBook reader the Daily Edition.  As in, newspapers.sonydailyreader.190

The Daily is at the high end of the price range at $400.  More significantly, the Daily throws another punch in the match against the Kindle from Amazon, like the Kindle DX, although the Daily only has a 7inch screen, which doesn’t match up to the Kindles 9.7inch screen.

However, Sony added a 3G Modem to provide free 3G wireless connectivity to the Sony eBook Store.  Users will be able to buy and download books, newspapers and magazines, with no monthly fees or charges for basic wireless connectivity, assuming they can get connected to the AT&T service. Sony is expecting to have other ways of access.

The highlight of the Daily is the introduction of a Library Finder application.  Sony is working with a e-book distributor OverDrive and over thousands of libraries in the OverDrive network, users will be able to enter their ZIP codes into the application and download electronic books with a valid library card. At the end of the lending period, the books just vanish from the reader.  Though book selection will most likely be limited.

Physically, the Daily — which won’t go on sale until later in the year — will have a display housed in an aluminum shell that can be read in either portrait or landscape mode. In portrait mode, about 30 to 35 lines of text will visible, making the experience very similar to that of a printed paperback book, Sony says.
