FTPthumb Whether you own a website, have a home FTP server or just want fast downloads from to time.  Sure there is shareware FTP clients, but why buy a FTP client when you can do the same EXACT thing on a free FTP client?  There is no need to,  I have populated a list of 5 “good” FTP clients you should use if you do work on the website or run a FTP server at home.  If you are running a FTP client at home, I hope you are using FileZilla FTP Server

FileZilla

filezilla FileZilla FTP Client is a free, open source FTP client for Windows, Mac and Linux.  FileZilla is very popular due to it’s price tag of free, support, cross platform, and ease of use.  FillaZilla appears the best to many users new to FTP.   Users stick to this program because it’s fully featured, fast and the most reliable FTP in constant development (serously, almost every time I use FileZilla there is an update for it, which is great!).  They even make a portable version that you pop on your thumb drive, so where you go you will have an FTP client.  Finally, if you wanted to set up your own FTP Server at home, FileZilla has you covered there as well. I highly recommend this FTP client.

FireFTPfireftp

FireFTP is a free, cross platform FTP client for Firefox.  It integrates with Firefox very well, though it isn’t a  fully featured FTP Client, but if you only need a simple and quick way to download and upload files, it’s more than capable of getting the job done.  As I mentioned above with FileZilla, FireFTP is also portable.  If you are using portable version of Firefox on your thumb drive, you can install this Firefox extension/addon and you will have a simple FTP client where ever you go!

WinSCPwinscpthumb

WinSCP (Windows Secure Copy) is free, open source and featured rich FTP Client.  WinSCP supports SFTP and SCP protocols for secure file transfers.  WinSCP is a fast and lightweight FTP client, while supporting advance features such as, remote file editing.  When opening a plain text file, WinSCP can open the text files with a text editor of your choice and when you save the text file WinSCP transparently uploads the changes on the remote server. Theres also a portable version available as well.

Windows 7 FTPWin7FTPthumb

Win7FTP is FTP client designed around Windows 7.  Win7FTP is a pretty powerful, professional looking and very simple FTP client for Windows 7.  Though it is only designed to run on Windows 7 because it uses Windows 7 features, such as the Aero style for the login form, download form, and upload form.  Win7FTP also utilizes the Windows 7 taskbar feature.  You can hover over the application, just like any other application in Windows 7 and you will see a progress bar appear when you are uploading or downloading.  If you are looking for a powerful, professional looking and simple FTP client, this is a great FTP Client.

Tunnelier SFTPtunnelierthumb

Tunnelier SFTP is a SSH and SFTP client for Windows.  Tunnelier SFTP has a good graphical interface.  Tunnelier has a state of the art terminal emulation with support for bvterm, xterm, and vt100 protocols.  With powerful command line parameters which makes Tunnelier a high customizable SSH and SFTP client.  Tunnelier is free for individual use.  If you are looking for a very secure state of the art SSH and SFTP client, Tunnelier should be the choice.  As like the rest, There is also a portable version.
