Well its around midnight and its April 1st and this is the day that the Conficker Worm (also known as Downadup) receives new instructions on how it communicates and will infect many computers on networks and at homes.  I just wanted to get the word out before anything happens and give you some links to some tools if in case you get infected by the worm.

Make sure you head over to SANS Internet Storm Center for latest updates about this internet worm and other worms/virus as well.

If you have not already, please make sure you have Anti-Virus installed and updated to the latest definitions.  Also, make sure that you have updated Windows via Windows Update to get all the recent patches.  I am pretty sure that Microsoft will release some sort of patch tomorrow.

I recommend that you download the following tools before you get infected and even possibly run them before the end of the day to just make sure you didn’t get infected by the worm.  We can’t just shut down our computers/networks because we can’t just let the worm run our life, we must fight it till it is terminated.  If we just wussed out they would create either another worm or make the Conficker worm even more power full and keep on doing it. I really hope they find the people that created it in the first place and give them hell! I say!

These tools could save your life and/or your computer!  Now for the users that don’t have any Anti-Virus, you can download AVG Free and it is a pretty good and one of the best free Anti-Virus software out there.  Also remember that this Worm only infects Microsoft Operating systems only, not MAC OSX or Linux.  So if you have a MAC and a windows machine, just disconnect the Windows machine from the network and use the MAC for the rest of the day.  But for the rest that don’t have Linux and Mac computers, we just have to be careful at what we do and keep our systems patched and up to date with stuff and we can’t do much besides to ride it out.

I hope this will help you to become more aware of Virus and Worms that are out there are the internet, the only best Anti-Virus is your self and with some common sense you will be free of virus for ever.  Anti-Virus software is only an AID to prevent virus/worms.
