Sony DSC-H50 Camera Problems

July 25, 2008 |  by Nick  |

sony-cybershot-dsc-h50I recently bougt the Sony Cybershot DSC-H50 camera. Its a really ncie camera, (ie, 9.1mp, 15 X zoom, steadyshot, etc…) But recently the built in flash has stopped working.  But I dont use the flash that much.  I think flash sometimes make pictures look not so real.  But I just don’t wanna wait to get the camera fixed since it does have 1 year warrenty. I’m just afraid that if I send it out and get it back the flash might work a while and then die again. Which will piss me off.  And there is no hot shoe. :( But most photographers dont use the flash anyways. I’m mostly a nature photographer, I really wanna get the Nikon D90 someday.

  1. I bought this camera too. I thought the color on the pics were a tad too “yellow” looking abd the battery life on this thing sucks major ass, so I returned it.

    • Really? Thats interesting. I never had that problem, I took a picture with this camera and a good DSLR and the picture was almost the same.

I also had decent battery life.

  2. The flash may not be broken. Go to ‘Main Settings’ and select Initialise. This resets the camera to factory settings and after that the camera allowed me to turn the flash on and off again.

    • Sony told me to do the same thing. But however it did not work, so I did send it back and indeed there was a problem with the Flash Board and some other electronic parts the report said. But it has been working great now! Infact better than when I bought it. They upgraded a few parts in it as well, such as the cpu.

But this was a old post, However I do have a Nikon D60 DSLR camera now. But I do use both time to time.

      Anyways, Thanks for your post!

  3. I bought this camera a bout a year ago ive taken about 200 pics with it so far and now when it ake pics and load them on the computer only a few of them come out. They look good on the camera but while transfereing them i get a message that says the file is corrupt tht happens on a bunch of pics. I tried t aking out the memory card and using the internal memory and get the same messages. This camera has always been kept in a nice camer bag and kept in the house in a closet so it has never been abused.

  4. well i used the card reader for the memory card but used the cable when i tried to transer from the memory on the camera. This camera has always worked perfect till i used it yesterday and like i said it sits in the camera bag in my house

  5. i just ook 6 pics with this camera and was loadinging them on the computer and it said — The file in this directory is corrupt or unreadable this is what it says everytime one of the pics loaded the other 5 gave that message

    • So it works fine when using the card reader for the memory card, but when you try to transfer them from the camera’s internal memory, it says it’s corrupt? It almost sounds like it could be the cable.

I never used the usb cable with that camera before, I have always used a memory card reader. I had to send that camera back to get fixed because the flash wasn’t working and other stuff, it works fine now, but I use a DSLR now.

The other thing you can try is trying different usb ports, different computer, maybe try Initializing it.

Also – make sure the USB connect option is set to either Auto or Mass Storage.

  6. well it gives me the same message if i use the cable or the card reader. if i try to put the memory card in the computer and hit transfer then almost ever pic it trys to transfer gives me that message, so i tried using the internal memory and plugging the cable in and i get the usb port and i get the same message

    • Alright, so it’s either the cable, the computer for the camera it self.

Make sure the cable is connected nice and snug, make sure there nothing broken on the ends of the cable. Try it on another computer to rule out if it’s the computer.

Try to reformat the memory cards, and Initializing it. If all else fails it could be the camera just not working correctly, but I don’t think it’s the camera thats doing that.

  7. ok i just now took 8 pics with this camera and put the memory card in the reader and the first 2 pics loaded fine the rest gave that corrupt file error. The pics look good on the camera on the view screen

    • Like I said before, it’s either the camera, the cable or the computer. Theres not really a whole lot more I can tell you, besides you will just have to mess around with it for a while and see what happens, if it just keeps on doing this, you may have something wrong with the camera. But to me it sounds like it’s the data transfer thats screwing up the transfer.

  8. well i formatted the camera and memory card and still same message. It gets frustrating because this camera has hardly been used amd i am supposed to take a lot of pics of a westerntown with a gunfight show and stuff and cant get my camera to work. I do appreciate you trying to help me and if you think of anything else i can try i would appreciate it. thanks

    • Like I said you will just have to keep on trying. But if it has worked fine in the past and now it’s doing this, there definitely something wrong.
