We all know Comcast as a fairly decedent ISP, CSP and TSP (Internet Service Provider, Cable Service Provider and Telephone Service Provider). Comcast is now trying to expanded there services with more features. Comcast is buying Plaxo Social Networking to power upcoming community features on their services.
Comcast and Plaxo have already started working together to develop “SmartZone” which will be due sometime this year or next year. Plaxo will add much better community capabilities to cross-platforms services that will bring into play all three of Comcast’s Basic Platforms. Users will be able to go into set of contacts stored on SmartZone, Pick out a friend to share photos with, and let that friend view the photos on a TV via Comcast’s Cable Service.
Comcast has 25 Million Cable TV subscribers and 14 Million High Speed internet subscribers, adding this new capability to Comcast’s services will be a whole new way of looking at cable TV, internet and even phones. Plaxo has been around for a few years on the Web and also allows automatic updates of business address-book information. Plaxo recently had signed on to the Google-Led Open Social specifications aimed at making different social networking services.
My Response:
I think this is going to be sweet! No other Data service providers have done this before. It’s a wonderful Idea and its just going to open a whole new view of Social Networking, Isn’t this the way it should be? If you get cable and have Comcast services you would be able to share you photos over cable TV, now how cool is that? Many people think Comcast sucks but in reality they don’t at all, they do have one of the fastest internet connectivity and they are hardly ever down. Adding this whole knew platform is a much better way to be with your friends. I also think they will be making a lot more money of from this so this could lead to lower charging rates and more bandwidth.
